10 May 2024 News

Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs Ivan Kondov held a meeting with the Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Ukraine to the Republic of Bulgaria, Ms. Olesya Ilashchuk.

The interlocutors discussed Bulgaria's support for Ukraine in the context of the ongoing armed aggression of the Russian Federation, as well as mechanisms for the implementation of the EU sanctions against Moscow.

‘The consistent and firm support of the Republic of Bulgaria for the independence, sovereignty and territorial integrity of Ukraine within its internationally recognised borders remains unchanged. This is a foreign policy priority for the caretaker government as well, and the Ukrainian side can be sure that the Bulgarian assistance will last as long as necessary’, Deputy Minister Kondov said, adding that Sofia firmly supports all the EU sanctions adopted so far, including the new 14th package being prepared.

During the meeting, they discussed the upcoming Conference on the Reconstruction of Ukraine (Berlin, June 11—12) and the scheduled for mid-June summit on President Volodymyr Zelensky’s ‘Peace Formula’, which will take place in the Swiss city of Bürgenstock. Ms. Ilashchuk expressed the gratitude of Ukraine and the Ukrainian people for the unwavering and consistent Bulgarian support in all aspects, stressing that for the upcoming peace conference Kiev is counting on the participation of the highest possible level and of as many countries as possible, which would further contribute to making the ‘Peace Formula’ the basis for a lasting and just peace for Ukraine.

During the talks, the two sides also discussed the possibilities for coordinating Bulgarian assistance to Ukraine at central level between the various Bulgarian institutions.
